Ambala Cantonment

Ambala is a district in the state of Haryana, located on the border of Punjab and Haryana. The city has been separated into two divisions, Ambala city and Ambala cantonment. Ambala cantonment is a town in Ambala district in the state of Haryana situated on Grand Trunk Road at a distance of approximately 200 km from Delhi and 50 km from Chandigarh. The benefit of this city is its geographical location which makes tourists cross this city while travelling to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Jammu & Kashmir

There are several stories behind the existence of the name Ambala. The first one is that Ambala was found by a Rajput named Amba in 14th century and hence the city got its name as Ambala. The second belief being that the city was named after Amba Bhawani who is the goddess of temple called Bhawani temple which stands in the city even today. And the third belief is that the city was originally a part of Amb Village which means village of mangoes.

Ambala Cantonment Ambala cantonment was established in the year 1843 soon after the British discarded its cantonment at Karnal. It is renowned for manufacturing surgical and scientific instruments. Ambala cantonment has the presence of Indian Air Force and Indian Army. The Ambala cantonment area also contains one of the largest and oldest airbases inherited from the British by the Indian Air Force.

Indian Air Force base being situated at the urban area in Ambala is used mostly for military, political and government purposes. In the year 1948, the Ambala Air Force base was constructed. Pakistani Air Force attacked the Ambala Indian Air Force in 1965 as well as in1971.There were close to 25 planes that were demolished by Pakistani Air Force during their invasion attacks. Thereafter, the Flying Instruction School which is also known as FIS, was set up here. And the same was relocated to Chennai in the year 1954.Ambala airbase has a war memorial built in the memory of all crew members who lost their lives during war and peace missions. The war memorial is known as “jatt di pasand”.

Jobs in Ambala cantonment are several, given the huge army and Air Force bases here. Many recruited personnel of the Indian military and Air Force are posted here as well as exhibit the types of jobs and careers that such fields can have for the young men and women of the country.

Ambala Cantonment Railway Station is a doorway to many places in North India. Several trains pass through this station on a daily basis. Himalayan Queen Express, Amritsar Barauni Jansewa Express, Unchahar Express, Saharanpur-Nangaldam Passenger, Delhi Ambala and Malwa Express pass though this station. New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi, Bhatinda-New Delhi Shatabdi, New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi are some of the Shatabdi trains which stop over at Ambala cantonment station.

Thus, Ambala cantonment area holds great significance to the Indian armed forces and has strategic importance when it comes to national security.
